IIMs shortlist candidates on the basis of CAT scores, written ability tests (WAT), group discussions (GD) and personal interviews (PI).
Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are one of the most prestigious education institutes for postgraduate programmes in the country. Every year, lakhs of aspirants prepare for the exam CAT. Usually, IIMs shortlist candidates on the basis of CAT scores, written ability tests (WAT), group discussions (GD) and personal interviews (PI). Among the many branches, one of the most popular and well-known is the IIM Bangalore.
Recently, IIM-B changed the admission policy for its flagship postgraduate programme. Now, more weight will be given to the personal interview as compared to past years.
IIM Bangalore uses multiple parameters, like academic performance in Class 10 and 12, graduation programmes and the candidate’s section-wise scores in CAT, to judge the suitability of a candidate for the PGP. Now, as per the new admission policy, the weight given to personal interviews has increased to 40 per cent. Earlier, 35 per cent weightage was given to PI.
In order to make changes in the admission policy, IIM Bangalore has reduced the weight of marks obtained in Classes 10 and 12 from 15 to 10 per cent each in the shortlisting phase. Additionally, in the final stage, the weightage assigned to Class 10 and Class 12 marks has come down from 10 to 5 per cent. Let’s look at the total weight given to all the sectors for selection:
CAT 2023 score: 25%
Class 10 marks: 5%
Class 12 marks: 5%
Graduation marks: 5%
Work Experience: 10%
Writing Ability Test- 10%
Personal Interview: 40%
In 2023, the Common Admission Test (CAT) saw the highest number of registrations, with 3.3 lakh people registering for the examination. The number has significantly increased in comparison to last year, which had around 2.5 lakh registrations earlier. This year saw the highest registration since the commencement of the CAT examination in 1977.
IIM-B is among the country’s premiere institutes and is known for its high salary packages. Last year, the highest CTC was Rs 80 LPA and the average CTC was Rs 35.31 LPA.
