Parag Agrawal, originally from Ajmer, Rajasthan, is the former CEO of Twitter. He is a graduate of IIT Bombay and had a salary of around Rs 8 crore, along with restricted stock units that were valued at around Rs 94 crore. His overall salary package was over Rs 100 crore on Twitter, but he could serve as the CEO of Twitter for only a year. As soon as Elon Musk took over the company, he fired Parag and served as CEO himself for the first few months. Parag belongs to a well-educated family. His father was a senior official in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy, and his mother was a retired economics professor. Parag graduated from IIT Bombay in 2005 and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 77. Later, he moved to the United States to pursue a PhD in computer science from Stanford University. He did his internships at Yahoo and Microsoft Research. In 2011, he joined Twitter; and after serving for 6 years, he was appointed as the chief technology officer post the departure of Adam Messinger. According to sources, when Parag joined Twitter in 2011, there were less than 1000 employees.
As per reports, Parag Agrawal might have received a compensation of 12 million dollars. This amount is an estimation based on adding one year’s earnings and all other equity awards based on his base salary. Elon Musk took over the company with a massive deal worth 44 billion dollars.
According to sources, since Parag’s exit from Twitter, he hasn’t joined any company. His LinkedIn profile also states, “Former CEO at Twitter”. He is married to Vineeta Agarwal and has two kids. Vineeta is a general partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
American writer Walter Isaacson wrote the biography titled Elon Musk, which was released today, on September 12. In the book, it is said Elon Musk’s conversation with Parag Agrawal has also been featured. As per reports, both of them met over dinner for discussion in March 2022.
