The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has opened applications for its four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence program for the academic year 2025-26. Application window for the programme is currently open, and will close on May 30, 2025, with classes scheduled to begin on September 1, 2025. Students can apply on the official website at iitg.ac.in.
The course is being offered by the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT-G. This fully online undergraduate programme aims to equip students with industry-relevant skills in data science and AI through a globally accessible, flexible, and affordable format.
Programme structure and curriculum
Structured around a trimester system, the programme spans 12 weeks per term and covers foundational to advanced topics in data science and AI. The curriculum integrates theoretical learning with hands-on training through interactive video lectures, real-world case studies, and live sessions delivered by IIT Guwahati faculty and industry experts. Key components include internships, term projects, and a capstone project in the final year.
Students will have access to industry-standard tools such as Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, and VS Code via Coursera labs. For advanced computing requirements during capstone projects, learners can utilise India’s leading supercomputing facilities, PARAM Kamrupa and PARAM Ishan. The program also offers a four-week optional on-campus immersion spread over multiple slots for students seeking in-person training and networking opportunities.
Global reach and community
Currently, over 1,700 students from 21 countries, including the USA, Canada, UAE, Singapore, and the UK, are enrolled in the programme. Participants also gain access to the Annual AI Confluence at the IIT Guwahati campus, where they can engage in academic and professional events dedicated to AI and data science.

The program features flexible exit options, allowing students to earn the following credentials at different stages:
–After Year 1: Advanced Certificate in Data Science & AI
–After Year 2: Diploma in Data Science & AI
–After Year 3: B.Sc. in Data Science & AI
–After Year 4: B.Sc. (Hons.) in Data Science & AI

Students exiting early can rejoin the program after a one-year break to complete the degree.
Eligibility criteria and admission process
Applicants must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognised board or university, with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
Candidates eligible for JEE (Advanced) in any year are offered direct admission. All other applicants must qualify through an online entrance test, for which a preparatory course is available.
Graduates of the program will be prepared for roles such as Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Researcher, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Big Data Engineer, and AI Consultant. Completion of the degree also makes students eligible for competitive exams like GATE and facilitates further academic or professional advancement.
