The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shoolini University. The collaboration is aimed at launching a joint Minor Programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The move comes at a time when thousands of engineering aspirants across the country are appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main Session 2, vying for admissions to top technical institutes.
AI + X minor programme to combine learning with practice
Under the MoU, the two institutions, alongside the Agricultural and Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH), a Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Ropar, will introduce a 15-credit Minor Programme in “Artificial Intelligence + X.”
The initiative is built on a ‘Learning by Practice’ approach and will be jointly certified by Shoolini University and IIT Ropar. It aims to equip students with AI competencies tailored to their core disciplines such as Agriculture, Biotechnology, Management, and more.
CPS lab to drive innovation in AI, Robotics, and Emerging Tech
Another key component of the collaboration is the establishment of a state-of-the-art Cyber Physical System Laboratory (CPS Lab). This facility will serve as a hub for hands-on research and learning in AI, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR-VR), Data Science, Robotics, and other emerging technologies. The programme’s curriculum, designed with input from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and edtech leader Masai, is set to be industry-aligned to meet evolving workforce demands.
This joint venture underscores a growing trend in Indian higher education institutions focusing on interdisciplinary and application-based learning models, especially in the wake of rapidly growing demand for AI talent across sectors.

In a last-minute development, NTA had to relocate candidates from the Modern Institute of Engineering and Technology in West Bengal to Khamargachi Private ITI due to unforeseen circumstances affecting the exam centre on April 9.
Additionally, reports emerged of some candidates in Andhra Pradesh missing their exam due to traffic restrictions imposed for Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s convoy. The incident prompted the Deputy CM to order a probe into the matter.
The results of JEE Main Session 2 are expected to be announced in the last week of April 2025. These scores will be crucial not only for qualifying JEE Advanced but also for securing seats in various engineering colleges, both government and private-owned, across India.
