 Placement criteria for Indian Railways 

It is divided into two categories:

Technical Category in Indian Railways

Education Qualification:

For Group A posts:
candidate should be a graduate in engineering, medicine, finance, or any other relevant field.

For Group B posts: Generally, departmental promotions from Group C employees.

For Group C posts:
Minimum educational qualification varies from 10th pass, 12th pass, or a diploma/degree in engineering or other relevant fields.

For Group D posts:
The minimum qualification is usually a 10th pass or ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification.

Age Limit:

  • The minimum age should be 18 years and the maximum age limit is 30 years
  • For Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribe candidates, 5 years of relaxation age, and for Other Backward Class candidates, 3 years of relaxation age is allowed.

Nationality: Candidate must have Indian nationality.

Non-Technical Category

Educational Qualification:

Candidates willing to apply for the non-technical Railway exam should have passed in 1styear B.Sc. (Physics), 10+2 with Physics and math and ITI in Computer Networking/Data Networking/Electrician. Candidates with another degree may also apply for railway exams.

Age Limit:

  • The minimum age should be 18 years and the maximum age limit is 33 years.
  •  For Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribe candidates, 5 years of relaxation age, and for Other Backword Class candidates, 3 three-year of relaxation ages are allowed
    Nationality: Candidate must have Indian nationality.

Selection Process:

The recruitment state in Indian Railways occurs in Multiple stages depending upon the level of job you are applying:

1. Computer Based Test:

  • Usually conducted for Group C and Group D
  • Covers General Awareness, Reasoning, Technical knowledge
  • Usually for CBT(PRE) CBT (Mains)

2. Physical Test:

Include Running, and weight lifting depending upon the post you are applying.

3. Skill Test

For clerical, typing base position, stenographer

Medical Examination:

Different medical standards apply to different positions (e.g., vision requirements for loco pilots).

Preparation Strategies:

Regular practice is required to crack a job in Indian Railways.

Some of the strategies are:

A. Peruse the Exam Pattern and learn it in and out

Undergo previous years’ question papers.

Understand the Blueprint/weightage of each subject and chapter

B. Regular Practice

Mock tests and previous year’s papers will improve the speed and accuracy. Time management should be concentrated, on CBT

C. Physical Fitness

For posts requiring PET, start training in running, weightlifting, and activities.

D. Staying Updated with Current

Keep updated with official RRB notifications on recruitment.

Keep updated on general knowledge, current affairs, and railway-related news
