Is Your Child Starting School Soon? Here’s How To Get Their Bal Aadhaar

In India, various identity documents are issued by the central and state governments, but one of the most important is the Aadhaar card, which is recognised across the country. If you are planning to send your children to school, you will need an Aadhaar card along with other documents. UIDAI issues Aadhaar cards for children, known as Bal Aadhaar. Even newborns are eligible for a Bal Aadhaar card. However, it must be updated with the child’s biometric data when they turn 5 years old and again at 15 years. (Local18)

For children under the age of 5, the Bal Aadhaar card is issued in blue. For those aged between 5 and 15, an Aadhaar card similar to that of adults is issued. (Local18)

Many hospitals have now started enrolling newborns for Aadhaar at the time of birth and are providing Aadhaar acknowledgement slips along with the birth certificate. (Local18)

At the time of registration for Bal Aadhaar, no biometrics are collected. Only the child’s photograph is taken. However, it is mandatory for at least one parent to have an Aadhaar card. If neither parent has one, they must apply for their Aadhaar before enrolling the child.
