NEW DELHI: A wave of happiness has been sweeping the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) campus ever since Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has been elected as the Chancellor (Amir-i-Jamia) of the university. His name was proposed by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar(Padma Shri) in the meeting of the Jamia Court(Anjuman) held on 13th March 2023.
Out of the 45 court members, 43 were present in the meeting and all members unanimously elected Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin as the Chancellor of JMI. Three Members of the Parliament (MP) namely; Shri Rakesh Sinha, Shri Danish Ali and Shri Imtiyaz Jaleel are also Court members and were present in the meeting apart from three other external members, teaching and non-teaching staff members of the university.
The Chancellor of JMI is the ceremonial head of the university and presides at the Convocation of the university to confer degrees while the Vice Chancellor is the executive head of the university.
Teaching and non-teaching staff members of the university have welcomed the decision of Jamia Court (Anjuman) and praised the Vice Chancellor for her visionary leadership. Terming the decision a ‘Landmark’, employees feel that Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin’s generosity and his interest in education give them high hopes that the university will have a medical college in near future.
