Saurabh Bhuwania proved that age is just a number, and anybody can achieve success — no matter what their age is.

We often hear inspirational stories of people who faced setbacks in life, yet managed to crack one of India’s most difficult exams, the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE). One such story is that of Saurabh Bhuwania. He has achieved not one, but several milestones in a very short period. A resident of Dumka, Jharkhand, Saurabh Bhuwania worked full-time at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). What’s inspiring is that Saurabh left his job and started preparing for UPSC at the age of 30. He proved that age is just a number, and anybody can achieve success — no matter what their age is — if they have the dedication and willingness to fulfil their dreams. He cracked the UPSC exam in 2018 and secured an All-India Rank (AIR) of 113.

Saurabh Bhuwania is a graduate of Commerce from the prestigious educational institute, St Xavier’s College, Kolkata. After his graduation, he pursued a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Company Secretary (CS) course. He further increased his educational qualification by pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University in 2015.

He secured a job as a manager in the reputed RBI. After that, he became serious about UPSC. He met many aspirants who were preparing for the examination. He too was determined to crack UPSC. He failed in his first attempt because of lack of writing practice but was undeterred. He doubled his hard work; and with sheer perseverance, he cleared the exam in the second attempt in 2018.

When it came to support, in an interview with the media, Saurabh Bhuwania had once revealed that it was his father and wife who extended their unconditional support to him that made it possible for him to crack the test. When he was asked about his job at RBI, he said that he liked the job a lot because of his interest in banking. However, he longed to work for the welfare of the people and wanted to become a civil servant, that’s why decided to sit for UPSC. Now, he is working as an IAS officer.
