Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2025 Counselling Dates: As IIT-Kanpur declares JEE Advanced result 2025 result, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) will conduct counselling for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other institutions. While JoSAA is responsible for conducting counselling for IIT admission and for the NIT+ system (NIT, IIIT, etc), CSAB conducts counselling only for the NIT+ system.

JoSAA will be regulating the joint seat allocation for admissions to 127 institutes for the academic year 2025-26. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 46 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). The registration and choice filling for JoSAA round 1 counselling will begin on June 3.

The seat allocation process through JoSAA would involve six normal rounds. After this, the CSAB will conduct two special vacant seats filling rounds for the NIT+ system. The official website for JoSAA counselling is josaa.nic.in. The academic programmes, along with the category-wise intake capacity known as seat matrix, will be announced on the online portal – josaa.nic.in.
A candidate chooses and applies to a series of academic programmes in a certain order of preference. In the context of seat allocation, “academic programme” refers to the combination of academic program and institute.
A seat to the highest possible choice of academic programme is allocated to the candidate considering the following factors:
(i) The category [GEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD] of the candidate.
(ii) The position of the candidate in respective rank list(s).
(iii) The order of preference of academic programs selected by the candidate.
(iv) The availability of seats in different seat categories / seat quotas for which the candidate is eligible.

JoSAA Counselling 2025: Who can participate?
Each and every candidate who satisfies one or more of the following criteria is eligible for participation in joint seat allocation:
Criterion (i): Qualified in JEE Advanced 2025 for academic programmes excluding the preparatory courses at IITs, and has qualified Class 12
Criterion (ii): Qualified in JEE Advanced 2025 for preparatory courses at IITs and satisfies the performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination passing criteria
Criterion (iii): Secured a rank in JEE Main 2025 BE/BTech paper for BE/ BTech programmes at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs and satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination” criteria
Criterion (iv): Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2025 BArch Paper for BArch programmes at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs and has passed Class 12
Criterion (v): Secured a rank in JEE Main 2025 B.Plan. Paper for B.Plan. program at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs and satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination” criteria
