Monsoon rains are in full swing in the coastal and Malnad parts of Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for six districts of Karnataka till May 30, 2025. This include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kodagu districts. The warning has been issued due to the forecast of heavy rains in these areas.

The IMD has stated that these districts are likely to receive very heavy rains along with thunder, lightning, and wind. Due to the low pressure area (LPA) formed in the Bay of Bengal, pre-monsoon rains are likely to increase further in the coastal and Malnad districts. Experts have warned that this low pressure area will bring heavy rains till May 30. The wind speed is likely to reach 30-40 km per hour, and hailstorms are also expected in some places.
