BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, is a government medical college under the Health and Family Welfare Department of the state government. Located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, it is the oldest medical college in Gujarat and among the oldest in the country. It was established in 1871 as Ahmedabad Medical School. NEET UG 2025 Result: Cut-off, counselling details

Initially affiliated with Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, it began with just 14 students training as hospital assistants. In 1879, a donation of Rs 20,000 by Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy led to the school being renamed BJ Medical School. The institution steadily expanded, securing affiliation with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bombay in 1917 and later with Bombay University in 1946, earning its status as BJ Medical College, offering L.C.P.S. diplomas. The college affiliated its undergraduate courses with Gujarat University in 1951, followed by postgraduate courses in 1956. Since then, Gujarat University has overseen its academic progression, fostering an environment where medical and paramedical education thrive.

The college now enrolls 250 students annually in its MBBS programme and over 400 students in various postgraduate disciplines. It offers postgraduate education in 24 specialties and super specialty training in 11 fields. Spanning more than 100 acres, the expansive campus houses multiple departments, making it one of the largest medical campuses in this region, attracting students from across India.

BJ Medical College is ranked at 50th in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 and 2022 in the medical category. In 2024, it could not feature in the list.

Gujarat’s Cancer and Research Institute is the top medical college in the state and was ranked in the 45th rank in NIRF 2024 medical college rankings and was placed in 41st position in the NIRF 2023 medical college rankings. The Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute was ranked at the 37th rank in NIRF 2022 but slipped to 41st rank in NIRF 2023 medical rankings and 45th in 2024.

The admission to BJ Medical College Ahmedabad will be through 85 per cent state quota seats against the NEET UG 2025 counselling and will be conducted by the Gujarat state authorities for admission to the college. The Admission Committee for Professional Under Graduate Medical Courses (ACPUGMEC) is the administering body for NEET UG 2025 counselling in Gujarat.
