To succeed in a freelancing business, you must be able to sell yourself to your target market. You need to give them a reason to try out your offerings and reassure them that you are someone they can trust. But being too aggressive may have dire effects and give the impression that you are desperate.
Here are some tips I recommend you to try out if you want to improve the way you sell yourself to your target clients:
Be Confident
While not everyone can be immediately confident about their ability to sell themselves, you need to be confident about your skills and what you have to offer.
If you don’t know where to start with this task, get inspiration from someone confident about their stance and promotional skills. But remember, stay humble and if you don’t know something, smile and do your research later.
Remember your Worth
If this is your first time to market your brand, it is ok to feel unsure about how you will promote your abilities and offerings. However, it is essential to remember that you are there for a reason, and it is because they are interested in working with you.
If you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and consider this experience a learning one. Even if you did not win the potential client, you could determine which strategy did not work and improve it the next time you have to pitch your business.
Be True to Yourself
Confidence is not enough to sell yourself to those interested in your offerings. You also need to be true to yourself and your brand. Trying to be another person will only put people away from you because of your pitch and your business identity. Stick with who you are, and you won’t go wrong.
Listen
When we get ideas, we tend to become impatient to interrupt so people can hear about our ideas. However, when someone is talking, it is common courtesy to listen to them and learn what they are trying to achieve.
Interrupting will only cause them to see you as rude and impatient. Wait for your turn to speak. Your ideas won’t go anywhere!

Adjust your Sales Pitch
Sometimes, clients may ask you to discuss another topic compared to what they initially requested. Don’t be afraid to take on the challenge and adjust your pitch accordingly. You should also research the business and know its goals to adapt it to your pitch. Your pitch should also be free from complex terms unless needed, and it must be easy to understand.
Be Unique
You need to stand out from your competition to make people curious about you. Make sure your pitch has all the information they need but have it delivered in an interesting and memorable format. You should also research to answer questions so you won’t be caught off guard in the process.
It can be trial and error to see what strategy works best to help you sell yourself and what you have to offer to your clients. However, each encounter can help you determine which approach works and improve them so you can do better next time. Make sure to thank people for giving you some of their time and wish them well. You may be surprised to get a message from them in the future because of your thoughtfulness.
