Mumbai: Junior college teachers from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts on Wednesday protested outside the state board office in Vashi against non-payment of salaries due to a delay in uploading their employment details on the government portal. They threatened to boycott the HSC exams beginning on February 21, if their demands are not met.
Amar Singh, President of the Mumbai Junior College Teachers Union (MJCTU) said that over 300 teachers have not received their salaries for three to four years as their employment details have not been registered on the Shalarth portal of the state government. “It is only after teachers are registered on the portal and they get a login ID can their salaries be released,” said Singh.
As per procedures, teachers’ salary starts kicking in after they are registered on the portal. For registration, details of students along with teachers have to be sent to the deputy director of education office at Charni Road. After verification, the details are sent to the state board office in Vashi, where according to teachers a re-verification process is done. ‘The entire process takes three to four years and teachers have to go without salaries,” said Singh, who submitted a memorandum to the Mumbai divisional board chairman Nitin Upasani.
They have threatened to boycott the HSC exams if their demands are not met within 10 days. HSC science practicals have already been interrupted by the ongoing strike by non-teaching staff of degree colleges. Science practicals began on February 1 and have to be completed by February 20. In several junior colleges, attached to degree institutions, non-teaching staff have joined the stir.
