Recently, Dr. Payal Chhabra, who was a surgeon in the Indian Army, became the first woman surgeon to join the elite Para Special Forces.
She was awarded the Maroon Beret at a ceremony held at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra. This feat has brought a lot of pride to her family, and they have been showering her with all their wishes for her continuous hard work and determination.

In 2021, the surgeon was first posted as captain of Ambala’s Army Hospital. Then, after completing her education, she became a senior resident doctor at the surgery department of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College in Haryana’s Karnal.
Currently, she is serving as a specialist surgeon at the Army Hospital in Ladakh. Before that, she was even posted at the army hospital in Khardungla Pass, which is among the highest hospitals in the world.
Payal revealed that the journey had not been an easy one for her. She had to go through intense training at Agra’s Air Force Training School. She added that in order to join the Paramilitary Force, it is important to be physically as well as mentally fit. She further added that during her training, she used to wake up between 3 and 4 a.m. The commando training also consists of 40 kilometres of running with weights ranging from 20 to 65 kg.
Dr Payal Chhabra’s family revealed that she had worked very hard for the feat that she had achieved in her life. They also added that she even got offers from big multi-speciality hospitals but she refused all of them as she wanted to serve the nation.
