The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is set to reintroduce the one-year BEd and MEd programmes from the 2026-27 academic session. The one-year courses were discontinued by NCTE about 10 years ago and since then the programmes have been offered for two-year durations.
Candidates who have completed either four-year degree or postgraduation can apply for the one-year BEd programme. Those who have completed three-year graduation will need to opt for the two-year BEd course.
The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), a four-year course combining a bachelor’s degree with BEd, which was launched in 57 pilot institutions in 2023-24 will be a deemed as a regular course from 2026-27 academic session. Furthermore, four specialised ITEP courses will also be introduced from 2025-26 including Yoga, Physical Education, Sanskrit Education, and Art Education.
