NEET MDS 2025: In a significant relief for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has extended the one-year mandatory internship cut-off date for NEET MDS 2025 applicants. The extension, now set to June 30, 2025, comes as a solution for many BDS graduates who were struggling to meet the earlier March 31, 2025, cut-off date. The change will allow a wider group of students to apply for the entrance exam.
This adjustment benefits BDS graduates who complete their mandatory internships between April 1 and June 30, 2025, ensuring they can still register for NEET MDS 2025. The decision provides relief to numerous graduates, particularly those from the 2018 batch of KD Dental College and Hospital, Mathura, and DJ College of Dental Sciences and Research Ghaziabad. These students had previously faced the prospect of losing a year due to the March 31 deadline. The issue was highlighted by The Times of India (TOI) in recent reports, drawing attention to the plight of the students.

Extension opens new opportunities for BDS graduates
The NEET MDS 2025 examination is scheduled for April 19, 2025. However, the registration window for the exam had closed on March 10, 2025, just before the internship cut-off was extended. Following the Ministry’s intervention, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is now expected to reopen the registration portal shortly. The move is expected to assist those who missed the original registration due to the March 31 cut-off date, as reported by the TNN.
Dr. Vinay Gupta, additional director (Medical) and spokesperson for NBEMS, confirmed that the registration portal would likely be reopened after considering several factors, including the availability of examination centers. He mentioned, as quoted by the TNN, that the IT team would open the registration window once all preparations are complete. It is anticipated that the window will remain open for about a week, providing an opportunity for eligible BDS graduates to apply.
DCI welcomes the Ministry’s move
The Dental Council of India (DCI) also welcomed the decision. DCI Secretary Mukesh Kumar expressed support for the extension, noting, as quoted by the TNN, that the move would not only benefit students from Agra University but also those from other dental colleges across the country. The cut-off extension and potential reopening of the registration window will ease the situation for hundreds of aspiring dental professionals, ensuring they do not lose a year due to unforeseen delays in completing their internships.
With this extension, the Union Ministry has ensured that more BDS graduates will have the opportunity to sit for the NEET MDS 2025 examination, giving them a chance to pursue their postgraduate dental education.
