NEET Success Story: Prerna Singh, the daughter of an auto driver, overcame hardships and cleared NEET UG 2023 on her first attempt, securing AIR 1,033 with a score of 686.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), known to be one of the toughest exams, is conducted in India for admission to undergraduate medical courses. While thousands of students appear for the exam every year, only a few manage to pass with flying colours, inspiring others with their stories of resilience and hard work. One such instance has emerged from Kota, the educational hub of Rajasthan. Prerna Singh, the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, made her family proud by cracking NEET on her first attempt.

Prerna Singh’s Early Life

Prerna was preparing for the NEET exam while living in Kota, Rajasthan, when her family faced a devastating tragedy. Her father passed away in 2018 when she was in the tenth grade, leaving the family in a difficult situation with no financial support. It was then that Prerna courageously stepped up to take responsibility for her family, caring for her four siblings while battling a substantial debt of ₹27 lakh, which she vowed to repay.

Prerna Singh’s Career Path

Despite the challenges, Prerna was determined to give her best effort to clear the NEET exam. She studied for 10 to 12 hours a day in a room so small that one could only sit, not lie down. Prerna and her siblings survived solely on the ₹500 monthly pension they received in their mother’s name, with occasional support from relatives. With minimal financial resources, she often ate just one meal a day and either cycled or walked, as she could not afford public transport.

After years of hardship, Prerna achieved remarkable success in NEET UG 2023, passing the exam on her first attempt. Out of 2.5 lakh students who qualified, she secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 1,033 with a total score of 686 out of 720. Speaking to the media, Prerna shared that her father was her greatest inspiration, as he had taught her never to give up on her dreams.

She also reflected on her family’s ongoing financial struggles, including persistent mortgage payments and other economic challenges. Prerna expressed her ambition to continue her education after completing her MBBS and her desire to contribute to medical research in the future.
