The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to conduct the NEET UG 2025 examination on May 4, 2025, in the afternoon session from 2 pm to 5 pm. This year, the exam will be conducted in 13 languages and will follow a duration of three hours or 180 minutes.
NEET UG 2025 will see significant changes in its exam pattern and application process. According to changes announced by the NTA, the pre-medical entrance exam will return to the pre-COVID format, with 180 compulsory questions to be attempted in 180 minutes. Additionally, the previously available section-wise choice system has been discontinued, making all questions mandatory for candidates.
In light of these changes, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for stronger security protocols to uphold the integrity of the NEET UG 2025 examination. Speaking about a meeting held on April 14 with the Director General of NTA and other officials, Sarma highlighted concerns raised by Assam Police after a discreet inquiry found abnormally high scores among students appearing from private exam centres in the state.
“We have requested the Centre to check the biometrics of NEET candidates before they enter the examination hall to stop malpractices,” the CM posted on X.
To further enhance transparency, the CM proposed Aadhaar-based biometric verification at all NEET exam centres. Additionally, he said that all centres should be set up only in Government or Government-Aided colleges.
What are the recommendations by Assam govt for conduct of NEET UG 2025?
The Assam government has suggested a series of measures to tighten security and supervision during NEET UG 2025:
– CCTV coverage at all examination centres
– Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for frisking candidates
– On-ground inspection by District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police
– Sanitisation of exam centres before the test day
– Deployment of senior civil services and police officers to monitor and manage the exam process
– Close coordination among the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), and NTA DG for effective implementation.
