The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025 on May 4, with over 23 lakh aspirants appearing for the exam across the country.
NEET-UG is the gateway to entering the top medical institutes of the nation to pursue medical courses such as MBBS and BDS.
As aspirants entered the exam hall with dreams of becoming doctors, many were left stunned by the difficulty level of the test, as it turned out to be a significant shift from previous years’ papers.
According to experts, the Physics and Chemistry sections were particularly challenging, leaving students disheartened despite a year of rigorous preparation. Several candidates reportedly exited the examination hall in tears.
To understand the expected cut-off, Local18 spoke to Surendra, an expert from the renowned Delhi-based coaching institute VMC. He remarked that this year’s paper was exceptionally tough—especially the Physics section. The paper, he said, was designed to match the standard level of the NEET examination, unlike last year’s comparatively easier version.
Controversy Over 720 Marks
According to Surendra, last year’s NEET paper was so easy that many students scored a perfect 720 out of 720, sparking widespread controversy. In response, the National Testing Agency appears to have deliberately made the Physics and Chemistry sections more challenging this year to prevent a repeat of the same situation.
Expected Cut-Off
Surendra predicted that no student would be able to score a perfect 720 this time. He estimated that the cut-off for NEET 2025 would likely fall between 600 and 610. Based on the difficulty level of the paper, he suggested that securing a seat in AIIMS Delhi may prove nearly impossible this year.
Error in Chemistry Question
The coaching expert also pointed out that one question in the Chemistry section was entirely flawed, with two options given for the same answer. Moreover, the Physics paper was lengthy, calculative, and quite difficult, consuming a lot of the students’ time.
In Chemistry, the majority of questions were from Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, while Organic Chemistry was almost entirely absent. The unexpected distribution and difficulty left many students anxious and overwhelmed. All eyes are now on the results, as students and parents await the official response from NTA.
