JEE Advanced 2025 topper Rajit Gupta, a resident of the coaching hub Kota, credited his success to his focus, not missing classes, and keeping time for extracurricular activities, among other aspects.
“I prepared with a focused mindset and learned from my mistake. I never missed my coaching classes and used to study for eight hours after classes. I kept solving previous years’ question papers and always had time for extracurricular activities to keep my mind fresh,” Rajit said. He said he wants to join IIT Bombay and pursue Computer Science.
His family lives in Kota, and his father, Deepak Gupta, is an engineer at BSNL. His mother works at JDB Girls College, Kota.
He was among four students who did their coaching in Kota to make the top 10 in JEE Advanced results this year. The others are Saksham Jindal, who got 2nd rank, Akshat, who got 6th rank, and Devesh has got 8th rank.
Ranjit said that he had several friends who also worked hard to prepare for the exam, and that just because he got first rank, it “doesn’t mean the others are less intelligent than him”.
Saksham Jindal, who is from Hisar in Haryana and secured 2nd rank, is also a cricketer. He moved to Kota for coaching. He has previously played under-14 cricket at the district level.
The JEE Advanced exam was conducted by IIT Kanpur in 2025, and was held in two shifts on May 18. After JEE Mains, 2.50 lakh students qualified for Advanced. They were competing for 17,740 seats in 23 IITs across the country.
Rajasthan’s Kota, which has been a hub for coaching centres for many years, had recently seen a major dip in the number of students. However, this year, authorities have sought to reassure students and parents, with District Collector Ravindra Goswami saying in an open letter that “the whole of Kota is committed to taking care of children coming here like their own children”.
