BHUBANESWAR: Odia researcher and IIT Delhi professor Dipti Ranjan Sahoo will get the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology for the year 2022. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the ministry of science and technology on Monday announced names of 12 scientists including Sahoo for the prestigious award.
Sahoo is now serving as the associate dean (infrastructure) and professor of structural engineering in the department of civil engineering, IIT Delhi. He along with Rajnish Kumar from IIT Madras will jointly get this prize in engineering sciences category.
Sahoo, a bright and meritorious student during his student career, got his bachelor of engineering (civil engineering) from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang, Utkal University before moving to IIT Kanpur for MTech and PhD.
He received his PhD degree in civil engineering in 2008 with a focus on earthquake-resistant design of structures. Prior to joining at IIT Delhi in 2010, he worked as assistant professor in the School of Infrastructures, IIT Bhubaneswar for six months.
Sahoo’s research areas include performance-based earthquake design, hybrid simulation and testing, seismic fragility assessment, seismic strengthening techniques, and structural fire engineering. He has published more than 250 research articles in the area of earthquake and structural fire engineering and filed five patents on earthquake vibration control devices.
