PATNA: A day after Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was duly notified as new governor of Bihar, the outgoing governor Phagu Chauhan on Monday made appointments of two top officials of the Magadh University, Bodh Gaya.
Prof Shashi Pratap Shahi, the principal of Patna-based AN College, and Prof Braj Raj Kumar Sinha have been appointed as vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor of Magadh University, respectively; a notification issued on Monday from the Raj Bhavan said.
“Governor Phagu Chauhan and chief minister Nitish Kumar held a discussion (vimarsh) at the Raj Bhavan on the appointment of vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor in the Magadh University. After that the governor-cum-chancellor Chauhan, while using his powers under the relevant sections of the Bihar State University Act-1976, has appointed Prof Shahi and Prof Sinha as the vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor, respectively, of the Magadh University,” an official communique issued from the Raj Bhavan reads.
“The tenure of the newly-appointed vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor will be of three years from the date of their joining,” the communique said.
In the first week of January this year, the Nalanda Open University’s vice chancellor K C Sinha was given the additional charge of Magadh University.
Earlier in the evening, the CM, after returning from his ‘Samadhan Yatra’ in Rohtas and Aurangabad districts, called on the outgoing governor Chauhan at the Raj Bhavan in the state capital here.
The Raj Bhavan also issued a photograph in which Nitish is seen handing over a bouquet of flowers to the outgoing governor Chauhan.
