The Chandrayaan-3 mission was a team effort by ISRO scientists.
Chandrayaan-3 is a remarkable success for ISRO under the leadership of its Chairman S Somanath, who assumed office in January 2022.
The historic mission of Chandrayaan-3 has become one of the landmark successes for scientists at Inidan Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It consisted of a lunar lander named Vikram, and a lunar rover named Pargyan. The objective of this mission was to explore the south pole of the moon. India has now become the first nation to have set foot on the south pole of the moon, and the fourth country to land on the lunar surface. The mission was a team effort of ISRO scientists led by its chairman S Somanath.
S Somnath is the present director of ISRO. Let us take a look at the educational qualifications of some of the scientists, who played major roles in this successful mission.
S Somanath
S Somanath took over as the Chairman of ISRO in January 2022. He has completed his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. He then completed his Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. He was also a gold medalist in structures, Dynamics and Control in the college.
M Sankaran
He is the director of the UR Rao Satellite Centre of ISRO. It is the lead centre for building satellites and developing associated satellite technologies in India. He obtained his Master’s degree in Physics from Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. After completing his education, he joined the ISRO satellite centre.
Dr V Narayan
He is the director of the Liquid Propulsion System Center ( LPSC) which comes under ISRO. He joined ISRO in 1984. V Narayan completed his MTech in Cryogenic Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1989. He completed his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kharagpur also. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from Sathyabama University, Chennai.
Dr S Unnikrishnan Nair
The director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, holds a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IISc Bangalore. He then completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras. He had also done an MA in Telecommunication and Space Law from NALSAR.
P Veeramuthuvel
He is the project director of Chandrayaan-3. He completed his schooling from Railway School in Villupuram. He then pursued Mechanical Engineering from Private Polytechnic College. He completed his graduation in Chennai. He did his PhD from IIT Madras.
