Kerala School Holiday News: Schools, colleges and other educational institutions in several district of Kerala have been closed today (May 26) after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued rainfall alerts across 15 districts in the state. As per reports, educational institutions in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts have been closed. Examinations, however, will be held as per the schedule.
According to a notification from the IMD at 10 am, 11 districts are under red alert; these are Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragode.
Orange alert has been sounded for 3 districts for the capital Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha. On the other hand, the agency has also issued a yellow alert for Lakshwadeep.
Although remedial classes are underway, schools across the state are yet to fully re-open. IMD said that this year monsoons arrived on May 24, earlier than it’s usual yearly landfall time in Kerala.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), through its official handle @Indiametdept, stated, “Moderate spell of rainfall likely to continue over Kerala, coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai, south Jharkhand, north Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya during next 3 hours.”
On the other hand, in light of the heatwave, all schools in Punjab will remain closed from June 2 to June 30 for summer vacations, the state’s Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains notified on X (formerly Twitter).
“In view of the heatwave in Punjab, all Government, Aided, Recognized, and Private schools in the state will remain closed for summer vacation from June 2 to June 30, 2025,” he wrote on the social media platform.
