An 18-year-old Class 12 student allegedly died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur after an unsuccessful attempt in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, a day after the results of the JEE Mains, which is a competitive exam for admission into the engineering colleges, were declared on Tuesday.

Student’s Suicide Note For Parents

She left a heartbreaking note to her parents, apologising for the low marks in the exam and for her inability to “fulfill” their dreams, India Today reported.

“Sorry, mummy and papa. Please forgive me. I couldn’t make it. Our journey together ends here. Don’t cry. You both gave me immense love. I couldn’t fulfill your dreams,” the suicide note read.

She was a student at a private coaching institute in the city and was “devastated” due to her low score in the exam. She took the extreme step and hanged herself after she was unable to cope with her disappointment.

What Did The Family Say?

The student had returned to hostel just two days ago. She also spoke to her father on Wednesday and got her mobile number recharged. During her conversation with him, she asked him not to tell anybody about her results.

Remembering their last conversation, the father said that he had encouraged her to prepare for the next attempt and had never imagined that she would take the extreme step, India Today reported.

The incident came to the fore when her fellow students informed the hostel warden that the doors of her room were not unlocked for a long time on Wednesday.

The hostel authorities informed the police and opened the door with their help. They found the student hanging from a noose made out of a scarf. The police also found a suicide note in the room.

The police have started an investigation into the circumstances leading to her demise. They said that the authorities have taken her body into custody and carrying out the legal formalities, the report said.
