SALEM: The Central Law college in Salem has organised one day special lecture on the topic ‘constitution as an institution and agenda for law reform‘ at their college on Thursday. College chairman and co-chairman of the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry bar council D Saravanan headed the event. Padma Shri awardee and the former secretary general of the Lok Sabha, T K Viswanathan participated as the chief guest. In his address, Viswanathan expressed his opinion on the efficiency of the Indian Constitution and he stated that any law be it the Constitution has to be in consonance with regard to the pulse of the contemporary era which is fast changing and evolving nowadays. While going ahead with his address he gave due regard to the challenges faced by the present legal regime and he shared his experience as a part of the Parliament legislative drafting. He gave a very detailed insight to the students of the procedure behind the Bill passing. He told the procedure and officers behind the veil dedicated by the government for the task of ensuring careful drafting and how the fabric of legislation is spun in by the team before it reaches the Parliament to fulfill the constitutional procedure demand. He also highlighted how efforts are underway and made to render due regard to the pulse and need of the population at the time of drafting of legislation. He placed a request to the law students to rely on the original text of the legislation and the constitution foremost to grab the true gist and meaning of it.
