The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) of India has released the SSC CGL 2024 notification, announcing 17,727 vacancies for various Group B and C posts. The examination will be conducted in two phases: Tier-1 and Tier-2. Tier-1 is compulsory for all candidates, while Tier-2 includes three papers tailored to specific roles.

Paper 1 is mandatory for all posts, Paper 2 is for candidates applying for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) position in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, and Paper 3 is for those seeking roles as Assistant Audit Officer or Assistant Accounts Officer.

The SSC CGL examination will be conducted by the concerned authorities in four tiers as mentioned below:

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme:

The Tier-I examination for SSC CGL is conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in an online format. The test has a total duration of 60 minutes and comprises 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks, amounting to a maximum score of 200 marks.

Sections:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 questions)
  • General Awareness (25 questions)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (25 questions)
  • English Comprehension (25 questions)
  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

The Tier-II exam is conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT), with the duration varying for each individual paper.

Papers:

Paper I (Compulsory for All Posts):

  • Quantitative Abilities: 30 questions (90 marks)
  • Reasoning and General Intelligence: 30 questions (90 marks)
  • English Language and Comprehension: 45 questions (135 marks)
  • General Awareness: 25 questions (75 marks)
  • Duration: 2 hours

Paper II (For Junior Statistical Officer):

  • Statistics: 100 questions (200 marks)
  • Duration: 2 hours

Paper III (For Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer):

  • General Studies (Finance and Economics): 100 questions (200 marks)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark deducted for incorrect answers in Paper I, II, and III (except for the English section in Paper I, where 0.25 marks are deducted).

Tier III: Pen and Paper Mode (descriptive paper)

Tier IV: Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test and document verification according to the specific requirements

Syllabus:

The SSC CGL syllabus is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge and skills in various subjects. The syllabus is divided across multiple tiers, each focusing on specific areas to evaluate different aspects of a candidate’s abilities.

Tier-I Syllabus:

The Tier-I exam consists of four sections:

General Intelligence and Reasoning:

Analogies, classifications, series, coding-decoding, puzzles, statements, and conclusions, etc.

General Awareness:

Current events, history, geography, economics, polity, sports, and culture.

Quantitative Aptitude:

Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, data interpretation, and mathematical reasoning.

English Comprehension:

Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, and idiom.

Tier-II Syllabus:

The Tier-II exam consists of three papers:

Paper 1:

Quantitative Abilities: Topics include number systems, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data interpretation.

Paper 2:

Statistics: Descriptive statistics, probability, and sampling methods.

Paper 3:

General Studies (Finance and Economics): Topics include basic economic concepts, financial planning, national income, budgeting, and accounting.

Tier-III Syllabus:

Descriptive Paper: This is a pen-and-paper-based exam that tests writing skills in the form of an essay, letter, précis, or application writing.

Tier-IV Syllabus:

Skill Test (for Tax Assistants): Data entry speed test.

Computer Proficiency Test (for specific posts): Involves tasks like spreadsheet creation, word processing, and slide presentation.

The SSC CGL exam is a highly competitive recruitment process conducted in multiple stages, including Tier-I, Tier-II, Tier-III, and Tier-IV. Each tier assesses different skills, from reasoning and quantitative aptitude to writing and technical proficiency.
