Maharashtra has made it mandatory for all schools in the state to play the state song, ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Maza,’ during daily school assemblies. School Education Minister Dada Bhuse on Monday, announced that all schools, regardless of their board of affiliation, must play the state anthem immediately after the national anthem. During the morning assembly, students will be required to sing two stanzas of the state song, which lasts 101 seconds.
“The state song must be played in all schools, regardless of the board they are affiliated with. This includes not only government schools but also CBSE, ICSE, and other international board schools in Maharashtra, who will play the state song daily after the national anthem. The objective is not only to ensure that students from all schools know the state song but also to introduce young children to the state of Maharashtra,” Bhuse said. He added that the initiative aims to familiarize students across the state with Maharashtra’s anthem and strengthen their connection to the state’s identity.
The state song of Maharashtra, ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Maza,’ was written by Raja Nilkanth Badhe and officially declared the state song in February 2023.
On Monday, Bhuse presented his roadmap for the next 100 days at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The plan includes several key initiatives aimed at improving the school education system. The plan emphasised the need to collect useful information about schools, teachers, and students in a digital format.
Listing the key initiatives and plans of the education department, Fadnavis on his official ‘X’ handle stated that the distribution of bicycles has proven to significantly increase the attendance of female students hence the scheme will continue. To enhance the school experience, all ministers, secretaries, and dignitaries are encouraged to visit schools on students’ first day.
He added that efforts will be made to raise awareness among students in schools with fewer pupils about the benefits of cluster schools. There will also be a push to ensure effective implementation of the Marathi language.
The government also plans to geo-tag and map all the schools and Anganwadi centres, accompanied by photographs. In line with the ‘PM Shri’ school scheme, one school in each cluster will be developed into a ‘CM Shri School.’ Fadnavis stated that the education department plans to expedite teacher recruitment process to ensure a smooth and timely hiring process.
