You must have heard of Bihar’s Super 30 – the IIT-JEE coaching institute run by mathematician Anand Kumar, which inspired the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Bollywood film Super 30. Similarly, in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, there’s another remarkable institute quietly transforming lives – this one for NEET aspirants.
Without a grand building or a big coaching brand, ’50 Villagers’ has been helping children of labourers and underprivileged families achieve their dream of becoming doctors. Despite limited resources, the institute has produced over 140 doctors in just 13 years. This year alone, 17 students have cracked the NEET exam.
Limited Resources, Unlimited Dreams
These students come from poor and marginalised backgrounds. Many were on the verge of giving up their studies, some were about to begin working as daily-wage labourers. But ’50 Villagers’ gave their dreams new wings. With proper guidance and free support, the institute helps talented students from rural areas pursue medicine despite financial hardships.
At this institute, caste or financial status doesn’t matter—only talent does. In the past 13 years, over 140 students from humble mud homes have made it to India’s top medical colleges. The institute was started in 2012 by Dr Bharat Saran and his team with the goal of nurturing students with potential, regardless of their economic background.
Selection Process?
To get into this coaching institute, a student must have scored at least 75% in Class 10. After initial counselling, students who show interest in becoming doctors are made to appear for an entrance exam. Only children whose parents are involved in farming or daily-wage labour are eligible.
In the final step, the team visits each applicant’s home to verify their financial condition. Every year, 50 students are selected for admission.
AIIMS Students & Government Officers Among Alumni
Speaking to Local18, Dr Bharat Saran shared that since 2012, dozens of students from the institute are now studying at various medical colleges, including AIIMS. Some have even cracked government exams and secured respectable jobs.
The institute receives strong support from IAS and IPS officers, who sponsor the education of these students. Philanthropists also contribute towards food, accommodation, and educational resources for all 50 students.
