According to the academic calendar 2023-24, schools will be operating for a total of 229 days.

October is a month of vibrant festivities and joyous celebrations across India, and Telangana is no exception. Among the plethora of festivals, Dussehra stands out as one of the grandest and most significant observances in the state. What adds to the festive fervour is the concurrent celebration of Batukamma, making this month a time of extended revelry.

To facilitate these elaborate celebrations, the Telangana government has declared holidays for workplaces, colleges, and schools, allowing everyone to participate wholeheartedly. In a notable move, the Dussehra holidays for the academic year 2023–24 have been extended to a remarkable 13 days, ensuring that students and educators have ample time to embrace the festivities.

The Dussehra break is scheduled to commence on October 14, 2023, a Saturday, and will continue until October 25, 2023, a Wednesday. Schools and institutions are set to reopen on October 26, 2023, Thursday, marking the end of this extended holiday period.

Notably, there have been adjustments in the number of Christmas holidays, which has decreased from seven to five. Additionally, the academic calendar has reserved the third Saturday of each month for parent-teacher conferences, fostering greater engagement between parents and educational institutions. The first week of every month is dedicated to sessions of the school education committee.

As per this academic calendar, schools in 2023–24 will operate for a total of 229 days. The academic year commenced on June 12 and is set to conclude on April 23, 2024. Furthermore, the Sankranti holidays are scheduled for six days, from January 12 to 17, 2024.

In an inclusive gesture, schools are observed to be closed on Milad un Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, which falls on September 28, 2023, a Thursday. These measures reflect the Telangana government’s commitment to ensuring a well-balanced academic schedule while accommodating cultural and religious observances.
