Nimishi Tripathi, a 24-year-old science graduate and the daughter of Avdhesh Tripathi, a forest guard in Madhya Pradesh, successfully passed the UPSC civil services exam. Hailing from the lesser-known town of Sanawad in the tribal-dominated Khargone district, Nimishi achieved the 622nd rank in the UPSC 2020.

Following her graduation in Mathematics from Indraprastha College, Delhi, in 2017, she embarked on her UPSC preparation journey. It took her two attempts to successfully clear the exam, with Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects. Her fascination with geopolitics drew her to this subject, as reported by Indian Masterminds.

Nimishi Tripathi attributed her success to her father Avdhesh Tripathi, who currently serves as a forest guard in Khandwa district, and the unwavering support and guidance from her mother, Shaivalini Tripathi, who is a housewife. The eldest one of the two daughters drew her primary inspiration from the hard work and dedication of her parents.

In an interview with Indian Masterminds, Nimishi Tripathi discussed the pivotal role her parents have played in her journey so far. She considered her parents to be her ultimate source of inspiration and attributed her UPSC success entirely to their support. “I get my inspiration from them. My father Avdhesh Tripathi is a forest guard and my mother Shaivalini Tripathi is a homemaker. Both of them worked hard to help me reach where I am today,” she expressed.

She went on to emphasise that her parents believed in her abilities. It was at their insistence that she pursued her UPSC aspirations. Nimishi further said, “I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to crack the exam, but their motivation kept me going and played a major role in this success.”

During a conversation with Indian Masterminds, Nimishi Tripathi opened up about her interview round. She said that the questions asked primarily revolved around her educational background and interests. One of the panellists inquired about the challenges faced by the tribes in her region, particularly concerning education. Surprisingly, she didn’t completely disconnect from social media while preparing. She viewed it as a source of relaxation. Whenever she had a taxing study day, she would unwind by scrolling through her favourite social media platforms.

Additionally, Nimishi Tripathi undertook the significant social responsibility of providing remedial classes to nine tribal children who had dropped out of school. She also expressed her creativity by creating tribal Mandana floor and wall paintings.
