It is one of the most prestigious universities in India.
In this University, one can enrol for the engineering course without JEE-Advanced at a minimal cost.
In India, when we talk about engineering colleges, the first thought that crosses our mind is the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee and such are considered to be the pinnacle of excellence and are prestigious educational institutes where getting admission is in itself a challenge.
It is also important to note that not only IITs but many universities are also there that are considered premium centres for engineering. One such institution is West Bengal’s Jadavpur University.
Jadavpur University is said to be on par with the IITs and holds the 10th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The top nine positions are held by IITs located in Madras (Chennai), Bombay (Mumbai), Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Tiruchirappalli.
Jadavpur University is neither an IIT nor an NIT category educational institution. Instead, it is a State-government run university that has a remarkable engineering department whose calibre and reputation can be judged from the mere fact that its students have been consistently receiving whooping salary packages upon graduation. In 2023, a student from the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department of this institute secured a staggering package of Rs 85 lakh per annum, which is an outstanding feat. This highlights Jadavpur University’s excellence and the promising future it offers to its aspiring students.
What makes Jadavpur University stand out from IITs is, it does not require JEE-Advanced to get enrolled in this institution. The West Bengal government conducts a joint entrance exam for admission, and those who perform well get selected.
Jadavpur University is a public state university whose main campus is in Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal. In 1905, it was established as Bengal Technical Institute and later in 1955, its name was changed to Jadavpur University. The Jadavpur campus is spread over 56 acres, while the Salt Lake campus – another branch in Kolkata – is 26 acres.
In comparison to IITs, Jadavpur University is considerably economical. While the fees per year in IITs can be around Rs 2.55 lakh for B.Tech, in Jadavpur University, the total tuition fees for B.E or B. Tech ranges between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
