Engineering remains one of the most sought-after career paths in India. With the growing demand for skilled engineers, choosing the right institution has become a challenging task. To assist students in finding the most suitable colleges, the Government of India launched the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). This initiative evaluates and ranks higher education institutions across the country to promote transparency and foster healthy competition.

The NIRF rankings provide comprehensive lists of institutions categorised by type and course offerings, including top universities, colleges and specialised fields. This helps students explore and compare institutions based on their preferences and requirements. According to the NIRF Ranking 2024, there are 23 state public universities, 22 private deemed universities, 16 IITs, 9 NITs, 7 central universities and 7 private universities included.

IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have retained their positions as the top three engineering colleges in India.
