UNESCO Internship Programme: Eligibility Criteria

Age: Applicants must be at least 20 years old to apply.

Academic Qualifications:

Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent, second university degree or higher).

Have recently graduated with a Master’s degree or PhD (or equivalent) within 12 months prior to the internship start date.

Note: Candidates who have completed a full-time bachelor’s degree but are not enrolled in a graduate programme are not eligible for the internship.

For secretarial/assistant or technical/professional roles, applicants should be enrolled in a relevant specialised school or technical/professional institution and must either be in their final year of studies or have recently graduated within the last 12 months.

Languages:

A strong command of English or French, both written and spoken, is required.

A working knowledge of the other language is considered an asset and may be essential for specific internships at the UNESCO Headquarters.

Computer Skills: Applicants must have excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software.

Other Skills:

The ability to work well in a team and adapt to an international working environment is crucial.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also necessary to succeed in the programme.

UNESCO Internship Programme Details 

Duration: The internship programme ranges from a minimum of one month to a maximum of six months.

Visa: Interns are responsible for securing any necessary visas for the duration of their internship.

Travel: Applicants are required to arrange and finance their own travel to the internship location.

Insurance: Interns must provide proof of comprehensive health insurance valid in the country where they will undertake the internship. UNESCO only provides limited workplace accident insurance.

Medical Certificate: A medical certificate is required before the internship begins, indicating that the applicant is fit to work. The certificate must be issued by a qualified medical practitioner and should not include detailed medical records.

Supporting Documents: Interns must provide a valid ID, Certificate of Enrollment, or Diploma (if they have recently graduated).

Leave: Interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during the internship period.

Stipend: UNESCO does not remunerate interns; there is no financial compensation for the internship.

The application can be completed in either English or French. If your documents are in another language, please provide an unofficial translation.
