To become an IAS officer, it is essential to pass the three-stage UPSC exam. Candidates who succeed in the UPSC Prelims and Mains are called for the UPSC interview. This year, the UPSC interviews are being conducted from January 7, 2025 to April 17, 2025. It is mandatory for all candidates to adhere to the UPSC interview dress code.

A total of 2,845 candidates who cleared the UPSC Mains exam 2024 will now proceed to the interview stage, which will be held in two shifts. Morning shift candidates must report to the centre by 9 am, while afternoon shift candidates should report by 1 pm. UPSC Interview Dress Code For Male Candidates

The UPSC interview is a formal occasion, not an informal meeting, and you will be assessed on your overall personality.

1. Male candidates are advised to wear dark and formal suits in colours such as navy blue, black, or charcoal grey. Alternatively, light shades like white or cream can also be worn.
2. Pair your suit with a traditional tie and avoid bright colours or flashy patterns.
3. Opt for classic solid colours or subtle designs in ties.
4. Your shirt should be clean and neatly pressed. White or light pastel-coloured shirts are preferred.
5. Carry all necessary documents in an organised folder, showcasing preparedness and responsibility.

Female candidates are advised to wear formal Indian attire for the UPSC interview. Salwar suits are appropriate for those who prefer not to wear sarees.

1. Light-coloured sarees or salwar suits made of cotton or khadi are ideal for the interview.
2. Avoid clothing with low necklines or overly bright colours.
3. Tie your hair neatly in a ponytail or bun.
4. Keep your nails short and opt for minimal makeup.
5. A simple watch is sufficient; avoid heavy jewellery or accessories.
6. Ensure all necessary documents are organised and ready to carry.

Mistakes to Avoid

• Avoid wearing ill-fitted clothing.
• Ensure your outfit is wrinkle-free.
• Test your outfit before the interview day to avoid last-minute issues.
• Match accessories like socks, ties, belts, dupattas, or blouses with your attire.
• Avoid mix-and-match mistakes.
• Do not wear overly bright, flashy, or trendy outfits.
