IPS officer Kamya Mishra resigned to manage her family’s business.

In a surprising turn of events, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer had resigned from her post, stepping away from a promising career in law enforcement to take charge of her family business. The President formally accepted her resignation, marking the end of a brief but eventful tenure in the IPS.

Kamya Mishra, originally from Odisha, was known for her academic brilliance from an early age. A consistent topper, she achieved an impressive 98% in her Class 12 board examinations and later secured the 172nd rank in the highly competitive UPSC Civil Services Examination. At just 22 years old, she joined the IPS, becoming part of the 2020 batch.

Her initial posting placed her in the Himachal Pradesh cadre, but she later transferred to Bihar, where she continued her service. However, after just five years in uniform, the 28-year-old officer made the unexpected decision to resign, leaving behind a career many aspire to but few achieve.

Reports suggest that Mishra, the only child in a prominent business family from Odisha, opted to leave the bureaucracy to take over her father’s business enterprise. Her decision reflects a shift from public service to corporate leadership, a path not often taken by civil servants at such an early stage in their careers.

Kamya Mishra is married to Awadhesh Saroj, a fellow IPS officer from the Bihar cadre. Saroj, a 2019 batch officer, met Kamya during their IPS training, and the two tied the knot in 2022 in a grand ceremony in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The couple has been married for over four years, with both serving in Bihar until Mishra’s resignation.
