Under Section 12(1)(C) of the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009, children from disadvantaged and economically weaker sections are now getting the opportunity to study in reputed private schools, which were previously considered accessible only to the affluent.

Under this initiative, students from DG (Disadvantaged Group) and EWS (Economically Weaker Section) categories are receiving free education in prestigious private schools.

To ensure that no eligible family misses this opportunity, the Bihar Education Department has extended the last date for online applications to April 19.

This initiative is not only a significant step towards equality in education but is also realising the goals of social justice and inclusiveness. It has given new hope to thousands of families for a brighter future for their children.

Application Deadline Extended

The Bihar government is conducting the online admission process in two phases for the academic session 2025-26 under this Act. In the first phase, the enrolment of more than 1,640 children has already been successfully completed across 364 private schools in the district. This figure reflects the growing awareness among underprivileged families about the scheme and their active participation in seeking better educational opportunities for their children.

The second phase of the process is currently underway, with 780 applications received so far. To ensure that no eligible family misses this opportunity, the Education Department has extended the last date for online applications to April 19.

Apply Through This Portal

Parents belonging to differently-abled and Economically Weaker Section categories can apply online through the Gyandeep Portal.

Following the submission of applications, document verification will be conducted until April 21. Schools will then be allotted via a lottery on April 25, and the admission process for selected children will take place between April 26 and 30.

Free Educational Essentials For Students

The government has also ensured that, alongside education, textbooks, uniforms, and other essential materials will be provided completely free of cost to the selected students. This provision is to ensure that no child’s education is hindered due to financial constraints.

The Education Department has directed all district education officers and programme officers to ensure the scheme reaches as many eligible children as possible. It has also urged parents to apply without delay, rather than wait until the final date, so their children may receive a quality education and move towards a brighter future.
