Western Australian Certificate of Education to offer curriculum in Indian schools

Education | The Indian Express

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has granted foreign board equivalence to the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) – a senior secondary curriculum from the Government of Western Australia. With this, the WACE curriculum will formally be introduced in Indian schools, making it the first international government-backed school board to be launched in India, as mentioned in the press release.

WACE is one of the existing international boards, offering K-12 education. In India, WACE is looking to onboard 100 schools in the next 3 years.

The WACE programme is administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), a statutory body of the Government of Western Australia. WACE is an established board in various countries, including Singapore, China, Japan, and Malaysia.

Offered through a network of partner schools across India, WACE will provide students with a unique identification number from SCSA, and all certifications are issued directly by the Government of Western Australia.

WACE aims to promote competency-based and inquiry-driven learning among students and move beyond rote memorisation to foster critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application. The programme aims to reflect NEP’s emphasis on holistic and formative assessment by integration of school-based evaluations, practical projects, and moderated grading that reduce exam pressure while tracking learning outcomes effectively, stated the press release.

Festive offer

WACE-affiliated school students will also receive the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) – a recognised university entrance score used by universities across Australia, the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. The AIU’s recognition will help Indian students complete WACE and apply for Indian universities with full Grade XII equivalence, in addition to international admissions around the world.

Offering a full-fledged K–12 education framework, WACE provides Indian learners a continuum from early years to senior secondary schooling.
