Australia has long been a favoured destination for Indian students, much like Canada. However, the dream of studying in Australia has recently become more challenging for Indian students, particularly those from six states: Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat.

Reports indicate that prominent Australian universities such as Federation University, Western Sydney University, Victoria University, and Southern Cross University have temporarily halted student visa applications from these regions. This decision is part of a broader initiative by the Australian government to crack down on the misuse of student visas.

According to visa consultants and foreign education experts, this move has caused significant concern among both consultants and students. The temporary ban is expected to have the greatest impact on Gujarati students, for whom Australia is one of the top three destinations for higher education.

Approximately 20 percent of students from Gujarat choose Australia for their studies, a figure likely to decline due to the new restrictions. The temporary ban aims to curb instances of visa abuse, where students enter Australia on student visas but then engage in illegal work or abandon their courses.

The sudden decision has left many students and education consultants in a state of uncertainty, particularly those who have already completed their studies or IELTS preparation. Many agents advocate for a case-by-case approach rather than an overarching ban.
