Several states across India have announced school closures due to the ongoing severe cold wave. From Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, many regions are experiencing extreme weather conditions, leading authorities to extend winter breaks or close schools temporarily to ensure the safety of students. Here’s a detailed look at the latest updates on school closures in various states and cities.
List Of States Where Schools Are Closed Due To Cold Wave
Uttar Pradesh
Noida: As per the latest order, schools in Noida, Uttar Pradesh recognised by all the boards (CBSE / ICSE / IB, UP Board and others) will remain closed until further notice in view of “dense fog and extreme cold” in the region. The order applies to all classes from nursery to 8th standard.
Lucknow: Schools up to Class 8 are closed until January 11, with online classes for Classes 9 through 12.
Agra and Mathura: Schools for classes 1 to 8 will remain closed until January 14.
Gorakhpur: Schools will stay closed until January 6.
Ghaziabad: Schools for classes 1 to 8 will be shut until January 11, following the District Magistrate’s orders.
Haryana
According to the official notice, all schools in the state will remain closed from January 1 to January 15, 2025. They are scheduled to reopen on January 16, 2025.
Punjab
In Punjab, the government extended winter break until January 7 for all government, aided, accredited, and private schools. Schools in the state were set to reopen on January 1 initially.
Delhi
Delhi schools are closed for 15 days, from January 1 to January 15, and will reopen on January 16.
Jammu And Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir administration began the winter holiday in schools on December 10, up to Class 5. Winter vacation began on December 16 for students in grades 6–12. The school is set to open on February 28.

Rajasthan
All private and government schools in Rajasthan were to be closed till January 5. Unofficial sources claim that the schools’ winter break may be extended due to the harsh cold weather.
Jharkhand
The state government of Jharkhand has ordered that all private and government schools from kindergarten to Class 8 remain closed from January 7 to January 13.
